About Kirkwood United Church of Christ
Located in Atlanta’s historic Kirkwood community, Kirkwood UCC is home to a flourishing and diverse congregation. Founded in 2006 by the Reverenced Susannah Davis, Kirkwood UCC came to life in the form of monthly worship services at a local coffee shop. These small affairs featured an eclectic mix of hymns, acoustic guitar accompaniment and a joyous message for locals and passersby.
Since that time, Kirkwood UCC has flourished, outgrowing the coffee shop in 2008 and the Kirkwood Community Center in 2009. After meeting for the better part of a year at the Old Kirkwood Library, the congregation finally celebrated its first service in its own dedicated space on the Sunday before Thanksgiving 2009. Located at 2033 Hosea Williams Drive, the ample space provides upwards of a hundred church members and guests with space for worship and children’s church, as well as various meetings and outreach projects throughout the week.
- We believe God not only created the world, but continues to create it each and every day.
- We believe we were created in God’s own image: beautiful and good.
- We believe in that God’s own child and humanity’s savior Jesus Christ is a hope, redeemer and friend to each of us.
- We believe in the Holy Spirit, the power of God at work in our daily lives day by day. It sustains us and is with us always.
- We believe that we are called to be real, honest and Authentic.
- We believe that we are called to love God with all that we are and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
