Laura joins Kirkwood UCC as one of our student ministers for the 2015-16 year, and originally hails from Seattle, WA. She is a second year student at Candler School of Theology and is working towards a Masters of Divinity degree with a concentration in Theology and Ethics.
The daughter of a UCC minister, Laura has been a lifelong UCC member, attending a large downtown Seattle church through most of her formative years. Plymouth Church was hugely influential in developing her love for crossing cultural and geographical borders, and exploring the ways God is at work the world over. After a retreat from church life in her college years, Laura found herself being drawn back to the church community and to the meaningful ways community is formed through our faith and the witness to God’s work throughout history and in our present.
Laura attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA where she received her BA in History and Political Science. Walla Walla is a town most defined by its rolling wheat fields and booming wine industry. There she fell in love with a small town lifestyle epitomized by lots of time outdoors and no traffic! After college, she lived in Australia for a year living out her dream of chasing cattle on horseback, before returning to Walla Walla, where she helped run a small winery and vineyard in the years prior to her move to Atlanta.
When time for rest and recharging comes, Laura loves hiking, exploring Atlanta’s restaurants, losing herself in a good novel, and watching the Seahawks play. She is thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to join Kirkwood UCC in fellowship this year and can’t wait to see how God is moving in and through this community.
