Melissa grew up as an Air Force brat, moving around in her early childhood and later growing up in Atlanta. She enjoys living in Kirkwood with her husband Dave, 2 year-old daughter Olivia, and their 3 dogs. They can be seen strolling through downtown or chasing Olivia around the playground at Bessie Branham park.
Growing up in the Community of Christ, Melissa was actively involved in church. She attended church camps every summer, eventually becoming a camp counselor and campfire director when she could no longer be a camper. Her experience as a campfire leader has served her well as a mom- she knows hundreds of songs to keep busy toddlers entertained. Melissa and Dave found KUCC when Dave moved to the neighborhood and ran into Susannah, who he had known since their time as counselors at Camp Glisson! They have been attending KUCC since 2013 and became members shortly after.
In addition to church camps, Melissa has worked with children as a nanny and an elementary teacher. She studied Psychology at Emory University, has a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. Melissa currently works in private practice as a counselor providing play therapy for children ages 3-10. She loves being with the infants and toddlers in the nursery, seeing their different stages of development, and sharing in their joy whenever they hear music from the service coming through the overhead speakers.
