Born and raised in Marietta, Ga, Kathy fell in love with all things Southern and has settled in Decatur. As a child, she discovered she excelled in gymnastics at the young age of 3 and started competing as soon as she was old enough to participate and competed until the age of 16. A few years later she returned to the sport to teach, eventually serving as the Director of the Preschool component of a large academy. It is at that time she realized how much she enjoyed both curriculum development and teaching little ones.
Kathy’s spiritual development is a mixed bag. Raised in the Methodist church through middle school, then a brief stent in the Southern Baptist church in her adolescence, followed by some exploration in nondenominational churches, Kathy finally found her home in the UCC in 2009. She felt immediately drawn to assist with the children’s ministry. “What can be better than sharing God’s love with little kids? Childhood is the ideal time to be exposed to the ENORMOUS love of God. There is no better foundation for their lives to be built on.”
Under Kathy’s leadership, KUCC’s Children’s Ministry has seen tremendous growth with the joyful addition of many new children and their families. Kathy has developed numerous opportunities for children and their parents, including a fantastic VBS experience, Kid’s Night In/Parent’s Night Out, faithful Sunday School for children of all ages and special field trips.
Outside of KUCC, Kathy is a nurse experienced in both intensive care and forensics. She currently serves as the Clinical Services Director at a non-profit center in Duluth focused on providing care to patients who have experienced trauma. In her spare time, Kathy loves to spoil her itty bitty dog, Ozzie, go for meandering bike rides, often finds herself lost on Pinterest for hours and enjoys browsing in local consignment/antique stores.
