LOCAL MISSIONS

Part of our call as a church in the Kirkwood neighborhood is to respond to some of the needs that are around us – to be in ministry WITH our community.

On the last Saturday of the month we set a table for the poor and the hungry in our community. We offer more than just a meal and toiletry supplies… we also offer love, respect, hospitality and friendship.

When our Food with Friends ministry began as Soup Saturday in 2010 there was a very present need in Kirkwood to be alongside folks who were hungry and existing with very little support and money. While much has changed in this neighborhood – even in the past few years with new construction where dilapidated apartments once were and people moving in every week – hungry folks still remain in need of food and fellowship.

In just one year we provided over 400 bags of food to the hungry in Kirkwood, handing out almost 20 bags each Soup Saturday. Each bag contains 8-10 cans and boxes of food, plus loose items such as snacks, and treats. To provide a consistent supply of food, we need 350 items per month.
