Rev. Charmaine Penn Johnson was born and raised just outside New Orleans in Avondale, Louisiana. Her pilgrimage of faith has brought her through Baptist, Catholic and UCC traditions. She has an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester and an M. Div. from Candler School of Theology and has most recently served at Victory for the World UCC as assistant pastor. She has served as a guest writer for The African-American Lectionary and UCC Worship Ways and currently serves as the Co-Chair of the UCC African-American Women in Ministry.
In addition to being our Associate Minister, Charmaine works full-time in IT with a technology company. Charmaine, her husband Kenneth and their two sons KJ and Martin live in Stone Mountain. KJ heads off soon for college with a football scholarship and between spelling bees and track practice, Martin is in the third grade. Charmaine is a charter member of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority where she serves on the Chaplain’s Council. She also serves on the Capital Campaign Team for a local school.
While Charmaine brings joy and spirit and depth to whatever it is that she is doing at KUCC, her job description leads her to fill two very important and needed roles at KUCC. Charmaine helps our congregation encounter God through spiritual formation in small group settings: taking care of the nuts and bolts of faith formation training and programming for our adults. She also mobilizes, energizes and creates better systems for lay leadership in our on-going ministries through our Servant Leadership Team.
